One of the greatest pleasures in life is to go boating on a weekend after working so diligently during the week. For a boating enthusiast, spending time on the crystal clear waters in their home state, fishing, or simply enjoying the fresh air and cool breeze as you revel in scenic landscapes, is perhaps the most popular activity among adults today.

Whether you own a sailboat or a cabin cruiser, recreational boating is not only a calming experience but a most enjoyable one. Moreover, nothing compares to the sunset and its mirror image reflecting upon the water.

According to the National Marine Manufacturers Association, for the year ending 2005 there are approximately over 500,000 registered boat owners in the New York State alone, with Florida leading the pack with over one million registered boat owners.

More and more people today are purchasing boats than ever before. This is due in part to the overwhelming need to de-stress and to spend quality time with the family. In fact, statistics also show that over 90 per cent of US citizens live closer to water, and thereby have the means and the availability to spend weekends and summers out on the boat.

Boating has also become a great sport as well. America’s Cup is a well known event, as well as rafting, kayaking, and canoeing. However, sailing is probably the post popular among all the aforementioned events.

A boating enthusiast is not someone who is only relegated to owning a boat, but can simply enjoy going out to watch sailboats cruise up and down the river. Also, a boat enthusiast may be someone who is a history buff, and either lives in or visits New York when the fleet of tall ships dock at New York harbor.

There are a variety of boats such as bass, cruisers, deck and pontoons, bowriders, cuddy cabins, bowriders, houseboats, ski boats, flats and bay boats, and offshore fishing boats. For the boating enthusiast, a yearly trip to a boat show will surely result in the purchase of a specific type of boat such as those mentioned.

Visit any European country and you will find a wide variety of yachts which are proudly displayed along the coast of such countries as Greece, Italy, and Monaco, just to name a few.

For the majority of the population, however, owning a sailboat or small cruiser is sufficient for any boating enthusiast to cast off and become one with the sea. If you’ve never been on a boat, you must try it one time. The experience is one you will never forget.
