Multi SPorts Facts

A multi-sport is a sport in which athletes compete in a number of different sports such as triathlon.

The first modern multi-sport event organized were the Olympic Games, organized by the International Olympic Committee (est. 1894) for the first time in 1896 in Athens, Greece. After some badly organized celebrations (1900, 1904), the Olympics became very popular. The number of sports, initially only a few, is still growing.

The sport of aquathlon consists of a continuous, two-stage race involving swimming followed by running.

Biathlon (not to be confused with duathlon) is a term used to describe any sporting event made up of two disciplines. Biathlon, however, usually refers specifically to the winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting.

Duathlon is an athletic event that consists of a running leg, followed by a cycling leg and then another running leg in a format bearing some resemblance to triathlons.

A heptathlon is a sportive contest made up of seven events (from the Greek hepta (seven) and athlon (contest)). More specifically, the term heptathlon refers to an athletics event consisting of seven events.

A triathlon is an athletic event made up of three contests (from the Greek).

A triathlon is typically a combination of swimming, cycling, and running.
